In 2008, Jay Z signed a great 10-year deal of $150 with the Live Nation. The great deal is almost expiring, and Jay sounds out other major players in the music industry about taking a stake in his recorded-music business at the Roc Nation. The expiry of the 360 deal could result in a buy-sell situation where either party buys the company outright (Roc Nation) or sell out the stake to the other.
According to close associates, Live Nation is looking forward to signing up for another lucrative touring deal with the rap mogul but is planning to withdraw from the recorded music side. Desiree (Des) Perez is Jay’s top executive at Roc Nation. Desiree and Jay met with Sir Lucian Grainge, the Chairperson and CEO of UMG (Universal Music Group), at his offices. This could be an indication that UMG will purchase a stake in Roc Nation. The success of deal could give Jay Z more capital to develop new artists and also to reinforce Tidal, his streaming service, which is facing stiff competition from larger services such as Spotify and Apple.
