Minnesota has some of the most beautiful churches you will ever see. There are so many that range from modern to historic it’s hard to say which ones are the most beautiful.
Assumption Chapel in Cold Spring is also called the Grasshopper Chapel. After a tornado destroyed the original, a Gothic-style structure was built. There is an amazing story behind the name Grasshopper Chapel. In the 1870’s, there was a locust plague that caused a lot of devastation in the area, so they built the chapel as a type of memorial. Another interesting one is the Assumption Catholic Church in Florian, which sits in the far northwest at an intersection of two country roads. When Polish immigrants settled here, a Renaissance style architectural church was built, a bit odd for this area of the prairie.
Moorehead has a replica church called the Hopperstad Stave Church. It is built as a replica to the same church that sits in Vik, Norway. One interesting decoration is the Viking ship that sits inside the center. Sitting on the banks of the Red River, this beautiful church has intricately detailed wood carvings that are amazing to see.
